A lot of people I meet ask me what I do. I usually answer that I am a photographer, which then results in a conversation about weddings as that is what they assume I mostly do. The reality is that I mostly do not do weddings but a whole mix of different things including event, fashion and business headshots.

For me though, one thing that I do specialise in is photographing interiors, where I have had a great deal of experience. This has included work for a conservatory company, a bespoke solid wood kitchen company and recently an interior designer. I just love the technical challenge from this sort of work as you need to capture the ambience of a room, often in a confined space where there are many issues with lighting and exposure. It is so important to have everything balanced in the final image as you need to convey the mood that fits the client’s brief.

This of course involves a fair bit of Photoshop work as you need to balance things by blending together a number of exposures to achieve the required atmosphere and look.

This is especially important if there are mixed sources of lighting within the space, many of which would introduce strange colour casts in the images. The skill is of course to make everything to appear natural and believable.
